In the Mood for some hot swinging action

In the mid-90s, the then love of my life walked out on me for a toothless Frenchman. I was full of indignant angst… and, yes, some awful poetry may have escaped from my pen.

At my lowest, and most pathetically poetic, I was lucky enough to stumble on what has now become one of my favourite flicks: Jon Favreau’s “Swingers” a 1996 comedy-drama about the lives of single, unemployed actors living on the ‘eastside’ of Hollywood, California during the 1990s swing revival. It was during this movie that I fell in love with the Swing Jazz scene, and started my hunt for my own personal Heather Graham. Unfortunately I still can barely move in a way that anyone would consider dancing, however,  I did find my Heather.

There doesn’t seem to be much happening in the Swing scene in BallaFornia, however all of us Hepcats, Lindy Hoppers and lovers of Swing Jazz can rejoice because  “In The Mood” is coming to town, with its all singing-all dancing-all-American 1940s musical revue.

In its 20th season, “In The Mood” is much more than a concert and recreates defining moments with the hypnotic String of Pearls Big Band Orchestra, In The Mood Singers & Swing Dancers from New York, sizzling choreography (from Alex Sanchez – a veteran of 10 Broadway musicals), sassy costumes and an authentic score of over fifty unforgettable hits.
