2013 October
We at BallFornia.com are big fans of the Main Bar on 28 Main Road. Delectable wood oven pizza and cold beer, in a hip little building – what’s not to like?
However, we often opined that all the Main Bar needed was an alfresco deck, two new bars, and live music to make it as close to perfect as possible. Well, bestill my pizza-lovin’, beer swillin’ heart, because those mad wishes will be conjured into reality and revealed when the revamped bar reopens on October 31st.
If Rockabilly music, vintage-inspired lasses, quiffed lads, Hot Rods, tattoos and Burlesque are your cup of Sailor Jerry’s Spiced Rum, well, my fellow BallaFornians, the Camperdown Cruise Rockabilly Weekender is for you.
The Festival is a 3 day long Rockabilly celebration, held along the historic, tree-lined main street of Camperdown (just a short cruise from the BallaFornian shores).
2013 attractions include:
The coming weeks will be funnier than dozens of confetti-chucking clowns crammed in a Nissan Micra… actually, clowns aren’t funny, they are terrifying…
Anyhoo, BallaFornians put your shovels down, because you’ve struck gold! Comedy gold. On Saturday October 26th, The Goldfields Comedy Gala will bring together a line-up of some of the brightest and most hilarious comedy stars from Australia and beyond, live at the Regent Cinemas.
Who? You ask. Well, slap your spring-loaded novelty eyeballs on these comedy nuggets:
Get your best frock out of mothballs, because the glittery madness of the second annual Ballarat Cabaret Festival is landing on our sunny BallaFornian shores!
It all starts with tonight’s sold-out Gala Opening. Hosted by the fabulous Geraldine Quinn, the Gala will feature performances from Antionette Haloran, Bradley Mc Caw, Amelia Ryan, Amie Brûlee, burlesque beauty Goldie White and a few surprises. Not lucky enough to get a ticket? Fear not, you can head over to the Piano Bar at The George tonight from 10PM. Free Entry!
BallaFornia’s scribes will soon be digging for human gold, as they search for Ballarat’s most fascinating folk.
We will be talking to artists, musicians, dancers, tattooists, owners of interesting businesses, scientists, educators – anybody that makes Ballarat and surrounding areas Balla-rilliant … OK, we need to workshop that adjective a bit more.
If you know of anybody we should interview, please get in contact.
Meanwhile, we whipped up this handsome, gold-diggin’ dandy, and are thinking of using him as our mascot. What should we name him?
If you are anything like me, you don’t want to only covet your neighbour’s unwanted crap, you want to shine it up and make it all sparkly again!
Well, get ready to turn someone else’s stinking old trash into your own gleaming pile of treasure with the Garage Sale Trail, which is happening in BallaFornia on 26 October.
